The City of Statesboro will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the Statesboro Fire Department’s third fire station at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September, 15, 2026, at 983 Brannen Street.
More than 20 years have passed since the construction of the city’s second fire station. City officials say the new station will improve coverage, reduce response times and support the department’s ability to serve a growing population. Construction on the $4.8 million project began in November 2025 and took 10 months to complete.
The new station is funded through $1.1 million in city Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) revenue and a $3.7 million loan from the Georgia Municipal Association’s “Bricks & Mortar Program,” which the city will repay over up to 20 years using future SPLOST proceeds.
City leaders and members of the Statesboro Fire Department will speak at the ceremony before cutting the ribbon on the new station.
The September 15 ceremony will also include a “push-in” for the Statesboro Fire Department’s newest quint truck, marking the apparatus’ official entry into service. The tradition dates to the 19th century, when hand-drawn and horse-drawn fire engines had to be pushed into the station after every call. Motorized engines developed in the 20th century no longer required manual pushing, but fire departments have kept up the tradition to mark the arrival of new apparatus.
The new truck, a 2026 Sutphen SL 75-ft aerial platform, is equipped with wireless remote-controlled nozzles, an integrated communication system, and more than 140,000 lumens of scene lighting. It carries a 500-gallon water tank and can pump 2,000 gallons of water per minute. The truck was purchased with 2019 SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds.
