Bulloch Co. Fire Department Lands Grant for Breathing Apparatuses

The Bulloch County Board of Commissioners announced recently that the Bulloch County Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) FY 2022 grant by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The grant of $269,672.72 will be awarded over a 2-year period that will aid in purchasing new National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) compliant Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) to increase firefighter safety and improve service delivery.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this much needed funding to provide the Firefighters with lifesaving equipment that was in dire need of replacement”, says County Manager Tom Couch. “As we continue to grow the Bulloch County Fire Department, it is crucial that we are able to provide them with all of the necessary tools to ensure their safety and the citizens’ safety.”

“Thanks to the County Manager and the Board of Commissioners for their support in applying for this AFG grant”, says Fire Chief Ben Tapley. “Working with Monroe Consulting, Bulloch County is moving forward with the Board of Commissioner’s vision of improving the safety of our firefighters by giving them the most advanced equipment available to better serve the citizens of Bulloch County.”

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.

Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
