Following the recent announcement of Police Chief Mike Broadhead’s retirement, the City of Statesboro is inviting community members to play an active role in selecting its next law enforcement leader. A public input town hall meeting will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers at Statesboro City Hall (50 East Main Street).
Police Chief Mike Broadhead is retiring, effective July 1, 2026, concluding a successful nine-year tenure with the Statesboro Police Department and capping off a law enforcement career spanning more than 40 years. To find his successor, the city is partnering with Developmental Associates, the same executive search firm that was used to hire Chief Broadhead in 2017.
The upcoming town hall session will be coordinated by Janice Allen Jackson, Senior Consultant for Developmental Associates. Ms. Jackson will open the meeting by introducing the firm, outlining the nationwide search process, and explaining how community input will directly shape the police chief candidate profile. Following the overview, she will guide attendees through a series of key questions designed to gather community feedback on the priorities, leadership traits, and values residents want to see in the next chief.
“Chief Broadhead left a legacy of steady leadership, professionalism, and sensitivity to community concerns,” said Statesboro City Manager Charles Penny. “As we look to the future, we want to ensure our community’s voice is at the very heart of this hiring search. Partnering with Developmental Associates once again allows us to maintain a rigorous, community-centered approach to find the right leader for the department.”
The feedback gathered during this interactive town hall will be utilized by Developmental Associates and city leadership to evaluate applicants and guide the assessment panel during the selection process.
