Statesboro’s The Sir Shop to Close at the End of the Year

The Statesboro Sir Shop is closing at the end of 2026.

The locally-owned Sir Shop in Statesboro has long been a specialty retailer for more than five decades after being launched in 1971 by Jim Long and Robert Lamb. The store opened as a traditional men’s specialty clothing retailer, selling everything from casual clothing to suits and formalwear and becoming a staple of the Georgia Southern community.

In the 1980s, Keith Boyett returned to the Statesboro area after college and bought into The Sir Shop in 1985 when the business had moved from the mall to the corner of Brannen Street and Gentilly Avenue. He eventually bought out the other partners and moved The Sir Shop back to the Statesboro Mall where he ran the store until his passing in November 2024.

But the Statesboro Mall location is closing.

Tim Coleman, who has owned the Sir Shop for the last two years with his wife, Erin, made the announcement, posting on social media Tuesday to say:

After two years, we’ve made the difficult decision to close The Sir Shop in Statesboro.

We gave it everything we had, but the mall environment in Statesboro has continued to be a challenge. Unfortunately, our experience with the mall ownership and management has made it increasingly difficult to operate and grow the business the way we believe it should be run.

But this isn’t goodbye to the brands you love!

We’re excited to announce that all of our brands are moving to Burlap in Metter! We’ll be bringing everything together under one roof and putting our energy into making Burlap bigger and better than ever. Stay tuned for some amazing sales just in time for Christmas! We will be fully transitioned and the mall storefront closed by 12/31/2026.

We sincerely appreciate everyone who has supported The Sir Shop over the past two years. Every purchase, visit, share, and kind word has meant more to us than you know.

Sometimes you have to recognize when it’s time to close one door and put your energy into the one that’s open and growing! We have big plans for the future of Burlap & Lace Market & Coffee Bar! Stay tuned!

Statesboro, thank you for the support. Metter, we’re coming in strong. See you at Burlap!
