Man Arrested in Candler County Double Shooting

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says a man wanted in connection with a double shooting that occurred on March 6 is behind bars.

The GBI, with the help of the Candler County Sheriff’s Office, has charged James Bryant, age 44, with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in connection with this shooting.

The Port Wentworth Police Department apprehended Bryant Monday, March 10 without incident and Bryant was booked into the Candler County Jail.

Preliminary information indicates on March 6, 2025, at about 11:45 p.m., the Candler County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of Creekside Way in Metter, GA to reports of a home invasion. Law enforcement officers arrived on the scene and found two people with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a local hospital and are being treated for their injuries. They are both listed in stable condition.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
