The Cobb County Police Department took out arrest warrants Wednesday evening for Bleckley County Sheriff Kris Coody.

The agency said the warrants pertain to allegations of Sexual Battery which reportedly happened in January 2022. At the time, Coody was in Atlanta for the Georgia Sheriff’s Association Winter Training Conference.

Under GA Code § 16-6-22.1 (2020), Sexual Battery is defined as a criminal act when a person “intentionally makes physical contact with the intimate parts of the body of another person without the consent of that person.” The law defines ‘intimate parts’ as “the primary genital area, anus, groin, inner thighs, or buttocks of a male or female and the breasts of a female.”

Sexual Battery is a misdemeanor in Georgia, unless the person is under the age of 16. Police have not indicated the investigation into Coody involves a minor.

Cobb Police declined to offer substantial details other than the investigation remains “active.” The agency also said no interviews would be provided to the media nor would any questions be answered.

57-year-old Coody had not been booked in the jail as of 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Bleckley County is approximately 30 minutes south of Macon.
