Effingham County Schools Announce Three New Principals for 2024-25 School Year

The Effingham County School System announced this week that three new people will take the reigns in the next school year.

Sara Huntley was announced as the 2024-2025 Effingham College & Career Academy Principal, Shana Hester as Assistant Principal for Ebenezer Elementary, and Michelle Thompson as Assistant Principal for South Effingham High.

Mrs. Sara Huntley began her teaching career at Effingham County High School in 2006, where she taught mathematics. She later moved to ECCA in 2019 as Director of Mathematics, Ebenezer Elementary in 2022 as Assistant Principal, and returned to ECCA as the Instructional Supervisor in 2023. Mrs. Huntley received her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Education Specialist degrees from Georgia Southern University and her leadership certificate from the University of West Georgia. She is married to Matt Huntley (a fellow educator) and has two children; Elisabeth (11 yrs) attends EMS, and John Matthew (9 yrs) attends EES.

Mrs. Shana Hester taught for 8 years in Tift County before her family made the move to Effingham, where she’s been for the past 6 years. She has taught 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and special education in those 14 years as an educator. Mrs. Hester is married to Ron Hester and has two beautiful daughters who both attend EES. Paisley is 9 and going into 5th grade. Piper is 6 and is going into 2nd grade. In her spare time, she loves watching both of her girls play sports (mainly softball), spending time on a beach, and reading. Mrs. Hester is looking forward to serving the staff and students at EES!

Dr. Michelle Thompson has been in education for 23 years using her expertise to educate students in the field of science. She holds a BS in Kinesiology, MS in Secondary Science Education, EdD in Curriculum Studies, and has a Leadership Certification. Dr. Thompson has been married to her husband Alex for 24 years, and they have three children–Tyler (SEHS â„… 2021, Ga Southern), Bradley (11th grade SEHS), and Maddie (7th grade SEMS). Dr. Thompson is a Triple Eagle and loves spending Saturdays in the ‘Boro—Go EAGLES!
