A Georgia State Trooper assigned to a Post 45 in Statesboro was recently given high praises by Governor Brian Kemp when he was awarded the Governor’s Public Safety Award.

The Governor’s Public Safety Awards recognize men and women of Georgia’s public safety family for outstanding service to their community and contributions to their profession. The program was initiated in 1998 by Governor Zell Miller.

“While we have appropriately honored those who have fallen, I would like to establish an organization that would also honor those who by virtue of their personal integrity and determination make public safety the respectable and necessary profession it is.” – Governor Zell Miller on the creation of the Public Safety Award recognition.

TFC Aaron Ramirez was honored for his heroic actions in 2021 in which he pursued a kidnapped woman, even after being grazed in the head by a bullet during the multi-county vehicle pursuit. The kidnapper led law enforcement from three counties on a lengthy chase that ended on Interstate 16 in Bulloch County. The driver fired shots at law enforcement throughout the chase, one of which grazed Trooper Ramirez as he attempted to execute a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver. Ramirez was ultimately able to execute the PIT maneuver and end the vehicle pursuit.

Ramirez also received the Valor Award last year at the Peace Officers Association of Georgia’s annual conference in Savannah for the same incident. He was nominated for that award by Tattnall County Sheriff Kyle Sapp.

TGV News interviewed Ramirez for a Public Safety Spotlight earlier this year. You can read his full feature and learn more about him below.
