New Pedestrian Beacon Crosswalk in Guyton goes live July 21

Georgia DOT crews will activate a new rectangular rapid-flashing beacons (RRFB) crosswalk on state Route 119/Springfield Avenue in Guyton, between Church Street and Pine Street on Thursday, July 21, weather permitting.

RRFB helps draw attention, when prompted by a pedestrian who presses the button to activate flashing lights, to improve the driver’s awareness of pedestrians crossing. RRFBs use an irregular flash pattern that is similar to emergency flashers on police vehicles.

The new crosswalk will provide a safe place for pedestrians to cross the highway, accommodating growing numbers of people who are crossing at that location. The RRFBs will help reduce the potential for accidents at the mid-block location by alerting drivers to the possibility of pedestrians in the roadway.

Motorists are encouraged to slow their speeds in the area and drive alert as motorists and pedestrians become familiar with the new crosswalk location and the RRFB activation.
