State Seeks Seizure of $115K Tied to Wife of Inmate, 3-Year Contraband Operation at Smith State Prison

The District Attorney’s Office in the Atlantic Circuit is seeking to seize more than $115,000 from a woman accused of smuggling methamphetamine into Smith State Prison for her incarcerated husband.

According to court documents, on August 22, 2026, 50-year-old Jennifer Lynn Thrasher entered Smith State Prison to visit her husband, Jamaine Thrasher, who is serving a life sentence for murder. Jennifer Thrasher was reportedly “concealing four bundles of Methamphetamine on her person, which she admitted she intended to deliver to her…husband…” The discovery of drugs led investigators with the Georgia Department of Corrections to search Thrasher’s residence where they seized 324 grams of suspected Methamphetamine and a quantity of unidentified pills.

Court documents also allege that Thrasher admitted that she had been supplying contraband to her husband for roughly three years and receiving payments that were transferred between multiple bank accounts, ApplePay, and Chime. Electronic communications between Thrasher and her husband indicated the accounts totaled somewhere close to $100,000.

Ultimately, the funds were seized electronically on August 24 and are currently frozen under a court order.

Asset Forfeiture Complaint

The civil forfeiture complaint was filed on September 22, 2026 for the full $115,710.36 confiscated during the investigation by the GDC Investigative Division. The filing by the District Attorney’s Office alleges the currency is contraband because the money is proceeds from the sale(s) of controlled substances, was found in close proximity to controlled substances, and was used (and is intended to be used) to facilitate a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.

Criminal Charges

Jennifer Thrasher, who lives in Macon, is facing seven felony charges associated with the contraband bust, including:

  • Trafficking in Cocaine, Illegal Drugs, Marijuana or Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent
  • Crossing State/County Guard Lines with Weapons, Intoxicants, or Drugs Without Consent of Warden
  • Possession of Prohibited Items with Items Without Consent of Warden
  • Attempt or Conspiracy to Violate Georgia Controlled Substances
  • Use of Communication Facility in Commission of a Felony
  • False Statements or Writings, Conceal Facts, or Fraudulent Docs

According to the paperwork, she was booked into the Tattnall County Jail and released on $28,000 bond.

Jamaine Thrasher, who is also facing charges for Attempt/Conspiracy to Violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and Use of a Communication Facility in Commission of a Felony, is no longer housed at Smith State Prison.

Thrasher is serving a LIFE sentence for a 1993 murder in Oconee County. According to court records, Thrasher was convicted in 1994 and committed to the Department of Children & Youth Services to serve his sentence in a youth detention center until he turned 17. According to GDC records, Thrasher was born in 1978 and has been in GDC custody since 1995.

Smith State Prison Has Plagued Tattnall County for Years

For years, TheGeorgiaVirtue has reported extensively on Smith State Prison in Glennville, particularly involving contraband, corruption, violence, and criminal enterprises operating from behind prison walls. Among the stories that put Smith State Prison in the headlines:

Smith SP is on its third warden since the uncovering of the botched murder-for-hire scheme orchestrated from behind the walls.

The facility has also found itself in the investigative report produced by the U.S. Department of Justice and at the center of admonishment from the Georgia Department of Health for failing infrastructure and unsanitary conditions.
